Holly Cottage & The Retreat
ACTIVITIES
Roman Baths, Bath
Bath is a world-renowned spa town, with Roman baths, a fine abbey, unsurpassed Georgian architecture, Regency crescents and squares, museums, art galleries, antique shops, theatres and international music, literary and fringe festivals. Shopping is excellent, with unusual shops and a farmers' market. Come and immerse yourself in the waters at the new Bath Spa therapy centre, served directly by the only hotsprings in Britain. All of this is walkable within a square mile in the centre of the city, served by a convenient 'park & ride' 3 miles from Wellow. Local bus runs only on Wednesday, but Bath has a 'dial-a-ride' sharing service which is cheaper than taxis.

The Circus, Bath
Walking: Wellow is well know as a centre for walking. We have good local guides to a variety of walks - by stream, through woodland or on quiet country lanes. Nice places for picnics.

Cycling: Wellow is on the National Cycle Network route 24 (The Colliers Way), which leads to the Kennett & Avon canal towpath, through beautiful beech woods, and to Bradford on Avon (great for family cycling) to the east, and to Frome and Wells to the south-west. There are also many quiet country lanes. You can hire bicycles in Bath.

Horseback riding: Wellow has an excellent trekking centre, offering bridlepath rides on horses and ponies for all ages

Archeology: This is as fine area for early Industrial Revolution archeology. We also have a fine megalithic site, the 6,000 year old Stoney Littleton long-barrow, one of the best preserved in the country, a walk of only one mile.

Children: there is safe paddling in the stream, playing "Pooh Sticks" from the bridge a small village playground, and a superb adventure playground in Bath. Also the incomparable Longleat Park for the young of all ages
Wellow Ford

Other: A good area for bird-watching, kite flying and also star-gazing (no street lights, so no light pollution!)

The River Avon offers boat trips and the Kennet & Avon Canal is easy for level walking or cycling through varied countryside.
